PRAIRIE COUNTY, AR (WMC) - Drivers in Arkansas were stranded for more than 10 hours due to an icy bridge on I-40.
The White River Bridge near mile marker 200 was shut down as salt trucks worked to clear the roadways in Prairie County, AR.
Arkansas Department of Transportation said many drivers slept in the cars as they waited for the interstate to reopen.
The interstate is back open but drivers should still expect delays.
John Edwards, a truck driver from Memphis, said he wanted to get to Prescott, Arkansas, but got stuck in traffic at 9:45 Wednesday night.
“I’m right here as you head to go over the White River Bridge and everybody is saying that is the problem,” Edwards said Thursday morning. “I’m tired, I’m sleepy and, I’m hungry.”
Edwards said his company asked him to turn around and come back to Memphis.
