DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC) - A Mississippi teacher is in the fight of his life and his school is stepping up to help.

Scott Blaylock is a social studies teacher and soccer coach at Lake Cormorant Middle School in DeSoto County, Mississippi. He’s battling kidney disease and awaiting a transplant, but first he needs a donor.

That’s where LCMS and the school’s parent teacher organization stepped in, holding a blood drive on Giving Tuesday with Mississippi Blood Services. The goal is to find an O+ living donor.

"As many of you know Mr. Blaylock is in dire need of a kidney,” reads the Facebook event. “We are very grateful to have this opportunity to help Mr. Blaylock! Let’s show him some GATOR LOVE!!”

Organizers aimed for at least 30 blood donations with the hopes that someone might be a match.

“We hope through this drive we may open the door for someone to give the ultimate gift,” reads the event description. “If you are O+ & wish to pursue living kidney donation please contact Melissa Moore @ 901-516-8466.”

Potential donors who are O+ can contact Vanderbilt Transplant Center at (615) 936-0695.
