$16K reward offered for information on missing man

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The mystery is growing surrounding the young fiancé who disappeared after a trip to an east Memphis gym.

Shaun Hamblen's family was concerned when they couldn't contact him Thursday night.

Now, the family is hoping a $16,000 reward will tempt someone to reveal where he is and bring him home the 23-year-old.

"We miss him terribly and it’s so out of character for Shaun,” said mother Michelle Simpson. “He's very black and white. If he says he's going to do something you can guarantee he's going to do it."

Simpson said her son was supposed to go to dinner with his fiancée and friends Thursday night after he finished working out at LA Fitness near Poplar and Perkins around 5 p.m.

He didn't show up for dinner or call.

"When he didn’t call Thursday night, we knew something was wrong,” Simpson said.

Friday afternoon, police found Hamblen’s black Infiniti in an outdoor parking lot at Oak Court Mall just across from LA Fitness.

“He’s the kind of person who would absolutely check in,” Simpson said. “If I called him or texted him and he didn’t answer right away, he would call me back very quickly.”

Simpson has called and texted but got no answer.

Investigators looked at surveillance video and saw Hamblen getting into a gray or charcoal Ford at Oak Court Mall Thursday.

It is not clear if anyone forced him to get into the car.

His family is offering a $15,000 reward on top of Crime Stoppers reward of $1,000 for a $16,000 reward total.

“Somebody had to see something,” Simpson said. “Somebody had to see something that was maybe suspicious or just didn’t feel right.”

Memphis police say someone knows who was in the car Hamblen got into. Someone has a friend or family member who drives that type of car with tinted windows.
