Cold and wet weekend with a slight chance for winter weather

Friday, December 7th, First Alert Forecast

Cloudy skies and cold temperatures will continue across the Mid-South today along with off and on showers. This weekend we will keep with wet conditions along with a chance for winter weather.

An area of low pressure will pull moisture to the Mid-South today and into the weekend. We will keep with spotty showers through the afternoon with cloudy skies and afternoon highs warming into the lower 40s region wide, but thanks to winds out of the northeast around 5 to 10 mph today we will see wind chills in the 30s. Rain will build into the region tonight with lows falling into the 30s. While most locations will see a cold rain, there is a slight chance for wintry precipitation mixing with the rain for locations north of I-40 mainly for locations near Dyersburg and Jonesboro tomorrow morning. While temperatures at the ground look to stay above freezing at the surface, impacts will not be likely Saturday morning.

TODAY: Cloudy with showers. Winds: Northeast around 5 to 10 mph. High: 43.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with rain building. Winds: Northeast at 5 to 15 mph. Low: 38.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Saturday we are looking at widespread rain across the region. For many of us it will be a cold rain as temperatures will stay in the lower 40s with breezy winds out of the northeast around 10 to 20 mph. Overnight Saturday into Sunday the rain will start to push to the east. Temperatures overnight will drop into the lower to middle 30s. Again, we will see the potential for wintry mix occur for locations along and north of Interstate 40s. Little to no accumulation is expected with this system. We will see clearing by the afternoon on Sunday when it comes to the rain, but we will see highs stay chilly in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Winds will also stay out of the north keeping us on the cold side. Lows will drop into the upper 20s Sunday night into Monday morning with partly cloudy skies.

THIS WEEK: Partly cloudy skies return for Monday with highs back into the lower 40s. Lows Monday night stay in the 20s with mainly clears skies. Tuesday we will see mostly sunny skies with highs back into the upper 40s and lows are back into the middle 30s. Wednesday we will see highs warm into the lower 50s with partly cloudy skies and overnight lows in the middle 40s. We are tracking our next system that will impact the Mid-South Thursday and going into the weekend. Rain chances are back to 30 percent for Thursday with highs in the upper 50s. We will watch this system to end next week very closely as it could put a washout to start next weekend.
