Shelby County deputy arrested for domestic assault
Shelby County Deputy Gilbert Williams, 22, was arrested Thursday for domestic assault.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Shelby County deputy is in jail accused of domestic assault.

Memphis police arrested 22-year-old Gilbert Williams Thursday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirms Williams is a deputy sheriff.

According to a police affidavit, officers were called to 1420 N. Watkins Ave. by a passerby who saw two people fighting in a car. The caller told police she drove past the car and saw a man in the driver’s seat hitting the woman in the passenger seat.

When officers arrived they found Williams and his girlfriend in the car.

According to the affidavit, Williams said his girlfriend threw water on him and started kicking him. She told police he grabbed her by the face, pushed her to the door and hit her before she threw the water.

Williams was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.
