DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WMC) -DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a deputy shot a suspect Tuesday night.
The shooting happened near 6:30 on Highway 305, near I-269.
Police say Omar Paramo-Boyso drove through an accident scene on Highway 305 and Bethel Road when he almost hit a patrol car.
A DeSoto County deputy then chased Paramo-Boyso before he pulled over.
When the deputy approached him, the suspect tried to hit the deputy with his vehicle.
The officer fired several shots at Paramo-Boyso, hitting him in the hand.
He was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition.
Deliveries to the DeSoto County gas station are pretty regular, but it was a different story Tuesday night.
“It’s usually quiet,” said route driver David Hellums. “Nothing. You see a few trucks here and there, coming and going and that’s it.”
Authorities say Paramo-Boyso was stopped and arrested near the gas station.
“It’s kind of scary,” said truck driver Terry Brown. “You have to pray about it and try to stay out of the way. Pray we don’t run into anybody like that.”
Paramo-Boyso is charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, and more.
