5 Great Things: Free meals for homeless, local schools nationally recognized

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - We ended and brought in a New Year this week, along with a host of great things that happened in the Mid-South.

The Roadrunners from Shelby County School’s Ridgeway High were the talk of the town after this video showed up in a new NFL commercial.

For the second year, Second Line restaurant brought in a New Year with a “Day of Warmth” by giving out free meals and haircuts to about 500 people in need, along with blankets, coats and hats.

Munford High School’s band marched in the 130th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on New Year’s Day.

Memphis Animal Services entered 2019 celebrating the completion of its year ending goal of finding new homes for more than 7,000 animals.

Neighbors and members of the Watchful Eye Neighborhood Association in Whitehaven raised enough money to install a SkyCop video surveillance system to help fight crime in their neighborhood.
