Anonymous donor takes vested interest in K9 officer
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Trumann Police Department’s K9 Ras will soon have a lifesaving layer of protection when he responds to crime scenes.

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Ask any police officer, and they’ll tell you bulletproof vest increases their chances of going home to their families at the end of every shift.

The same holds true for four-legged officers.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Trumann Police Department’s K9 Officer Ras will soon have a lifesaving layer of protection when he responds to crime scenes.

Within the next 8-10 weeks, he will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides body armor to K9 officers across the country.

“We are excited that Ras will be wearing his new vest,” Assistant Chief Jonathan Redman stated in a social media post. “Protecting our officers is a primary concern for the Trumann Police Department. Ras does an exceptional job…and now he will be more protected in critical incident situations.”

Each vest is valued at between $1,744 and $2,283. An anonymous sponsor provided the funds to purchase Ras’s vest.
