GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC) - Germantown officials are hoping to purchase Germantown Country Club’s property.
The city announced that Mayor Mike Palazzolo has told City Administrator Patrick Lawton to work with Germantown Parks and Recreation Commission on a deal for the city to purchase the land to be used as a park.
The club, which has been running for nearly 50 years, announced it will close its doors February 28 following the passing of both the country club’s owners.
The city notes that cost will factor into the decision and that nothing is set in stone.
“This is a beautiful piece of property and with the limited amount of vacant land in our City, it just makes sense to assess the possibility of the City purchasing the land,” Mayor Palazzolo said.
Palazzolo said there is also a great interest from developers to buy that property, as well as some who want to see it continue operating as a country club.
“It’s just too great of an opportunity to let it pass without some serious consideration by the City about how we could use it to benefit our residents and preserve the residential character of the area surrounding the property,” Palazzolo said.
The property trustee told city officials they hope to have a contract on the property by April or May.
