MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis' tire redemption program proved to be a hit.
In just two days the city collected 50,535 tires. The program’s goal is to clean up Shelby County.
Residents who participated in the program will receive $1 per tire up to $250.
“We had $54,000,” said Robert Knecht, public works director. “We got very close at 50,535. So we have a little bit left."
Knecht says the program is over for now but the city may consider another round in the future.
For those who participated, checks should arrive in two to four weeks.
If you still need to dispose of tires, Shelby County partners with Liberty Tires where you can turn in four tires per week.
