Memphis native celebrates her 100th birthday

Memphis native turns 100

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Mother Mary Alice Richardson celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday, standing before a congregation of family and friends at Abundant Grace Fellowship Church.

The major milestone included a proclamation from Mayor Jim Strickland, proclaiming the day "Mary Alice Richardson Day" in Memphis.

"But I loved every minute of it. It was so good to let me know that people really do care for you. They love you. And I appreciate everything they've done, is doing for me," said Richardson.

Despite her age, Richardson shows no signs of slowing down.

She attends church regularly, walks three miles a day and continues to drive.

She even drove herself to the birthday celebration.

“I got in the car and I asked the Lord to go with me,” said Richardson.

She said the secret to a long life is obedience to God.

“He promised us long life. He promised to give us a good life,” said Richardson.
