1 dead, others injured after carjacking leads to crash

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person is dead and two more are injured after a carjacking led to a high-speed crash.

Police were called to Tennessee Street late Tuesday night where an armed man reportedly took a someone’s car keys, their Ford Escape and personal belongings.

Officers were searching for that car near Goodloe Avenue where they spotted a Lexus speeding on South Parkway East. The Lexus then crashed into a Kia near 3rd Street and South Parkway.

Police say the Kia’s driver died and two men in the Lexus were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Police say they found evidence that connects the crash to the carjacking on Tennessee Street, but it’s unclear how the Ford Escape was involved.

Police did say the Lexus was stolen Jan. 20.

Tennessee Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
