MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Girl Scouts Heart of the South will host their annual G.I.R.L Event this weekend.
This long-awaited event will be one of the largest gatherings and celebrations for girls in the Mid-South.
G.I.R.L. stands for Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers and Leaders, four qualities that help girls achieve, explore, try new things and become exemplary leaders.
This hands-on show and expo is free for girls in grades K-12 and their families.
As part of the One Heart principles that Girl Scouts Heart of the South lives out, they will be providing a collection location for canned goods for the Midsouth Food Bank. During this time when federal workers are furloughed, the Midsouth Food Bank is struggling to keep pace with the demand. Girl Scouts want to help by collecting canned goods, and they’ll be bringing canned goods with them to the event.
But before you start your trip, get road ready with hands-on car care presented by car experts from AutoZone’s Women’s Initiative. Then blast off with an out of this world experiences with NASA, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and the mobile planetarium from the University of Mississippi! Back on earth, girls can code Daisy the Dinosaur, and excavate with the Pink Palace Museum, and go on an adventure with Geocachers of Tennessee.
Lastly, what is a Girl Scout journey without Girl Scout Cookies? Cookies will fuel your fun at the Go Bold! Goal Setting Archery Range, and cookie reward showcase. Girls can dance and sing with stage acts and videos between interactive activities.
The event is presented by AutoZone at the Landers Center and will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Online RSVP can be found on the Girl Scout Heart of the South website.
