MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Bluff City’s newest pro soccer team, Memphis 901 FC, opened its inaugural training camp at AutoZone Park.
The baseball outfield turned into a soccer pitch for the United Soccer League expansion team.
Head Coach Tim Mulqueen’s squad features a mix of youth guided by strong veteran leadership. 13-year MLS Veteran Defender Marc Burch is the team captain.
He said 901 FC will be ready to defend home turf once camp is complete.
“Everybody was buzzing.” Burch said. “I was laughing at the beginning, because it was like, they were like, 10 year old kids running as fast as they can. Take a breath. Let’s take some time, but everybody settled down, and you could really tell the quality out there.”
901 FC will have the first of 4 public scrimmages Saturday at the University of Memphis.
The regular season open is March 9 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in Downtown at AutoZone Park.
