MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the man fatally shot and killed by Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies at a hotel Thursday afternoon.
Jason Matthew Hill, 40, was shot and killed by deputies who were serving an arrest warrant after he opened fire on them first, investigators said.
The shooting happened at Garden Tree Hotel on Shelby Oaks Drive at 3:35.
At least two deputies returned fire on Hill, according to TBI.
No deputies were injured in the shooting.
TBI will not release the deputies’ names, per their policy.
"This incident occurred outside of the hotel. It does not seem or appear any guests of the hotel were affected by this incident," Lt. Anthony Buckner said.
According to court records, Hill was facing charges of a convicted felon.
The charges include possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a firearm with commission of a felony.
The TBI confirmed the last deputy-involved shooting was in October 2018 when Keyshon Parham died.
Agents say that case is still under investigation.
