MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - 40-year-old Jason Hill lived on Given Avenue off Pope Street.
His neighbors say they can't believe what happened to him.
Thursday afternoon Hill was shot and killed in an deputy-involved shooting.
Anika Wiggins lived next door to Jason Hill.
"He was a cool guy. I never had a problem with him. He was pretty awesome. He was an awesome neighbor," Wiggins said.
Neighbor Cedric Eddington knew Hill somewhat.
"He was nice. He would help you. Never knew something like that would happen like that," Eddington said.
Investigators say the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was trying to serve a warrant for Hill at the Garden Tree hotel on Shelby Oaks.
They say when Hill saw deputies approaching him, he fired at them. At least two deputies fired back, killing Hill.
Wiggins said she saw law enforcement at Hill's house.
"The police came over here last week," Wiggins said.
She didn't know why they were at Hill's house.
Court records show Hill was facing charges of a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of firearm in commission of a felony.
The TBI is investigating the shooting. The deputies have not been named.
