MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The CDC has three objectives to fight the HIV epidemic.
Step up prevention, HIV testing, and make sure people living with HIV are getting medical care.
Mississippi is one of the states the CDC plans to target.
President Trump is promising more money to fight the epidemic.
Local advocates say there also needs to be a focus on changing the stigma about HIV.
“If you're talking to young people in language that makes them feel uncomfortable about their sexuality, if you're not in the church and dealing with the whole person, not just the spirit but the physical body, that is a sexual being, you are part of the problem,” said Deja Abdul-Haqq from My Brother’s Keeper.
The CDC's goal is to reduce HIV infections by 75 percent in five years and by 90 percent in the next decade.
