SCSO: 184 deputies re-evaluated so far after psych assessment controversy

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says nearly 200 deputies have undergone a psychological reassessment after county officials learned an unlicensed doctor performed pre-employment screenings.

As of Monday, the sheriff’s office says 184 deputies including 22 deputy sheriff recruits have taken the written component of the exams. The test also includes a face-to-face interview.

200 SCSO deputies must be re-evaluated, costing county more than $40K

In total, about 650 Shelby County employees must be retested. That includes 214 deputies and 188 jailers within the sheriff’s office.

If a deputy fails reassessment it could result in his or her being fired. The department has until April 18 to report to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission that testing is completed.
