MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The controversial Elvis mural that sparked a lawsuit between the City of Memphis and a dozen artists has been vandalized.
Memphis City Council tried to remove the Elvis mural last year, but crews painted over the wrong ones.
The artists who created those sued the city.
Even though it was created during a city-sanctioned Paint Memphis event in 2017.
Council disliked this zombie mural but since it’s on private property, the city couldn't touch it.
Five other murals were scrubbed, and 12 artists sued Memphis last spring.
Murals at the next Paint Memphis event were all on private property, including one of a beautiful, young Aretha Franklin, painted by the very artist who did the zombie mural.
When asked the status of the lawsuit, the city said they had "no comment."
We’re told the Elvis mural may wind up coming down.
