Store owner dragged 200 feet while trying to stop thief

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Memphis store owner is recovering after being dragged 200 feet while trying to stop a thief.

The owner of Boost Mobile told police 20-year-old Mohammed Abu-Obeid pretended he was interested in buying an iPhone valued at $700.

Abu-Obeid snatched the phone and ran from the store into a Honda Accord.

The owner chased after the man to retrieved the phone, and grabbed onto the door of the car.

He was dragged 200 feet and sustained road rash injuries to multiple parts of his body.

Abu-Obeid is charged with aggravated assault and theft of property.
