Juvenile in custody after adult, teen hospitalized following Frayser shooting

14-year-old, father injured in shooting

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - An adult and child were taken to the hospital after a shooting in Frayser.

The shooting happened on Ardmore Street around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Memphis firefighters confirmed the adult and child were shot and rushed to the hospital. Police say the victims, ages 34 and 14, were in critical condition when taken to the hospital.

The 14-year-old has since been identified as David Vongphachanh.

DeAngelo Clark is a friend of Vongphachanh. He says he can’t believe what happened to him.

“I knew David. He went to Georgian Hills. He a nice guy and all that," said Clark.

Police detained a juvenile described as Vongphachanh’s friend in the shooting.

Adult, child in hospital after shooting

Diamond Dickerson and her friends say they saw David riding his bike around the neighborhood all the time.

“He would be with some other little kids. They called it their bike gang,” said Dickerson.

She said he was pretty funny.

"He just made us laugh like just do funny stories like out of nowhere," said Dickerson.

Clark says he just saw Vongphachanh.

"He cool, we got cool and all. I seen him like a few days ago," said Clark.

Police have not released much information about the shooting or the juvenile who was detained.

The grandmother of David Vongphachanh said he has died; however, MPD has not confirmed that to us.

A friend of the family has created a fundraiser on Facebook to help pay medical expenses.

The investigation is ongoing.
