Tax to be dropped from small gyms and health clubs

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Tennessee lawmakers are making progress in a push to end taxes on gym memberships.

The house approved a measure that would drop the amusement tax charged to small gyms and health clubs.

That tax generates $10 million a year, but Governor Bill lee said it needs to be eliminated to reduce burdens on small businesses.

Larger chain gyms are already exempt from the tax.
