Judge must decide who will oversee Winkler visits - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Judge must decide who will oversee Winkler visits

The Mid-South mother convicted in the shotgun slaying of her preacher husband will get to see her children since her release from a mental institution.

Before Mary Winkler can see her children, her lawyers must submit who they want to supervise the visits.

That parenting plan will outline each sides vision of how they would raise the Winkler children.

Those filings, however, will not be made public until after a judge rules on them, ultimately deciding custody.

Winkler's first visit with her little girls is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th. But it won't be the private reunion she might have hoped for.

Judge Ronald Harmon will appoint someone to oversee those meetings.

Memphis family law attorney Mitch Moskovitz is not involved in the Winkler case but has handled similar suits and says the visit supervisor could end up being any number of people.

"And who will do that could be someone acquainted with the mother someone who the court is comfortable with the father or in this case the paternal grandparents," says Moskovitz.

Matthew Winkler's parents currently have custody of the Winkler children. Dan and Diane Winkler have filed suit to terminate Mary Winkler's parental rights.

The court will review the two proposals before it decides on a permanent visitation arrangement.
