MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - While police search for clues in the shooting death of a popular recording artist, the mother of one of his children hopes that whoever is responsible will be caught.

Michael Goins was gunned down in his front yard last week. No arrests have been made in the case, and the mother of his 19-month-old daughter said she is frustrated.

"I feel like you can watch the First 48 and they're solving worse crimes than this with nobody knowing really nothing and they're solving them and it's been a week and we know nothing," Candace Fuqua said.

Goins, who is also known as "Dirty Mike" or "Shack," was shot multiple times in the one thousand block of Parkland Monday July 12.

"They say a home invasion but Mike, he let them in," Fuqua said. "There was no forced entry.  Looks like there was a fight put up in the house."

Goins was a local recording artist for "Money By Da Pound Records."  Fuqua said he loved music.

"Music was his heart. His label was his best friend, his second family and they cared a lot about Michael."

Investigators have not released many details about the shooting. However, they are searching for suspects.

"We just want to know who did it and why, even though we probably won't know why we want to know who did it," Fuqua said.

Fuqua said while her daughter will have to grow up without a father, she is hoping whoever is responsible for the crime is brought to justice.

"I don't know how to explain to her especially if they don't find her dad's killer.  How will I ever explain."

Visitation for Michael Goins is Monday July 19 until 7 p.m. and Tuesday July 20 from 8 to 11 a.m. at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home in Whitehaven. The funeral is Tuesday July 20 at 11 a.m.
