MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Heather Griffin scored 20 points and
pulled down 12 rebounds to help Gibson County to a 54-34 victory
over Livingston Academy in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic
Association Class AA girls championship on Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers became the first Class AA team to win a
championship with a perfect record (35-0) since Greene County won
the title in 1992.
Livingston Academy pulled within 37-34 on an Alissa Sells free
throw with 3:14 remaining, but wouldn't score again.
Gibson County (25-13) outscored Livingston Academy 17-0 over the
last 3:14. Griffin, the tournament MVP, and Heather Butler combined
for 11 points in the decisive run. Butler and Aubrey Reedy finished
with 12 points each.
Mackenzie Sells scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to
lead Livingston Academy.
Gibson County converted 26 Livingston Academy turnovers into 24
points. The Lady Pioneers held Livingston Academy to 30 percent
shooting from the field (13-of-44), while hitting 40 percent of
their shots from the field (17-of-43).
