HORN LAKE, MS (WMC-TV) - A new day care center in Horn Lake has gone to the dogs - literally.

Kristy Carter's dog Kasey, a Yorkshire Terrier, was one of the newest Tuesday clients of The Dog's Day, where every dog comes to play. Owner Roy Ridgeway said his business is a first of it's kind day care for dogs.

"We felt there was a real need, and we wanted to provide a place where dogs could be taken care of without the need of having them in crates all day," Ridgeway said.

The concept is simple: three daycare rooms with qualified staff, that play with the dogs in morning and afternoon sessions.  This way, the dog can get rid of any pent up energy.

"Dogs need the social interaction," Ridgeway said. We're able to socialize the dogs with other dogs.  This makes the dog more responsive, and a better pet."

To do this, they perform a temperament evaluation to determine where each dog should be placed. Tara Murphy, the owner of two dogs, said Ridgeway's business helped her dogs to get along better.

"I've been looking for a place to take my dogs for socialization," she said. "I think its very important if you want a well behaved dog."

Kristi Carter says it's perfect for a busy lifestyle.

"My husband and I both work everyday," she said. "We feel guilty leaving him home by himself. He can come up here and play and enjoy other dogs."

If you miss your dog you can check a web cam Ridgeway has set up to help you peek in.  Click here for more information on The Dog's Day.
