MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - For veteran's at Midtown's Alpha Omega house, life is more enjoyable, thanks to the homemade quilts that fill the inside.

"Oh my gosh...they're beautiful, and to me they're sort of soothing," said veteran Obery Wyatt.

These special forms of artwork are created by members of Millington's quilter's guild - who say its all about fulfilling a need.

"We have 53 members in our group and they're all very talented. Some have been quilting forever and some are new quilters," Millington Quilters Guild President Karen McMahan said.

The quilts are more than decoration - they also serve a practical purpose.

Obery Wyatt has been living at Alpha Omega house for two months.  He has four of the quilts in his room, and one is even on his bed.

"I know it's got to take some time on these quilts," he said. "In fact, I'd like to see them do it myself,."

For the quilters, its all about putting a smile on someone else' face.

"We just enjoy it - it makes these people feel at home, it gives them warmth at night and stuff on the walls so they can look at it and enjoy it," McMahan said.

The guild has already made over 200 valor quilts for wounded soldiers.  They've also raised about a thousand dollars for breast cancer research by raffling one of their beautiful quilts.
