A Mid-South couple is suing murder suspect Joe Caronna, claiming he stole over $100,000 from them.

Caronna, a Cordova financial investor, is wanted for the murder of his wife, Tina Caronna. Her body - hands bound and mouth duct-taped - was discovered in her car last year.

This month, Bartlett police obtained a warrant for Joe Caronna, who remains on the run.

This week, Mike and Barbara Roper filed a lawsuit claiming they were duped by a man they considered a friend.

"He clipped us pretty good," Mike Roper said. "He kept it and enjoyed it."

The couple invested in annuities for years. When their financial representative retired, they hired Caronna, who headed Caronna Investments.

After the Ropers learned Caronna was wanted for his wife's murder, they decided to check on their investments.

When they discovered their money was missing, they filed the lawsuit in hopes of retrieving their $100,000. They're also seeking $500,000 in punitive damages.

They couple says they knew both Joe and Tina Caronna.

"They would come by and visit," said Mike Roper.

The Ropers say they hope Joe Caronna is brought to justice soon.
