MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The merger of Delta and Northwest Airlines became much more visible Monday, as Northwest signage was replaced with Delta.

After working for Northwest Airlines the past 15 years, Doris Fast hung up her uniform in exchange for a new Delta Airlines uniform.

"It's kinda different from our old uniform," she said Monday. "It's top notch. We like the design."

Monday, attendants and gate check-in agents began sporting the new Delta branded uniforms.  As part of the new Delta-Northwest merger, Delta is also replacing signage and branding at more than 100 airports.

"We're kinda sad to see the Northwest signs being brought down and the new Delta logo being hung up," Fast said.

The merger is a 500 million dollar investment and will create the world's largest carrier, with more than 170 million customers served annually.

"With service to more destinations around the world than any carrier, that's great news for Memphis because it means you're connected to a network," Delta spokesperson Kent Landers said. "If you want to go to Europe, Asia, S. America, it's all on one ticket leaving from right here at Memphis International."

In addition to Delta's red, white and blue flagship colors replacing the Northwest brand, passengers can also expect to see other product and service enhancements once they're on board.

"That includes things like bringing free snacks back to coach, bringing movies back to coach, and improving the quality of food service in first class and throughout both cabins," Landers said.

Along with changes in uniforms and signage, over 200 Northwest planes will be repainted in Delta colors over the next year.
