TIPTON COUNTY, TN (WMC-TV) - It was a bizarre accident involving a Mid-South school bus and a mule drawn buggy.  Monday night, a school bus hit a buggy in near Sneed Road and Quito Drummonds Road in Tipton County.

You can still see the huge track the school bus left after it hit the buggy and ran off the road.  Wendy Campbell showed us the buggy her husband Mike was driving.

"It broke this bolt out and tipped the buggy over that way up on its side, and my husband was over there and he flew out into the ditch face first," Wendy said as she described the accident.

She said the collision spooked their mule, Jake, and gave her husband a concussion.

"He has a concussion on his head," she said. "It hurt his hip, and it messed up his ribs."

Investigators drew a large arrow to show the spot on Sneed Road where they believe the school bus clipped the back of the buggy.

"The bus shook and all the kids were screaming, 'You hit him! You hit him!' but he continued to keep going," Wendy Campbell said. "He delivered his whole route before he come back."

Tipton County investigators charged the driver, Mike Malone, with leaving the scene of the buggy accident and failure to stop and render aid.  Tim Fite, Tipton County's Director of Schools, says the district is conducting its own investigation.

"I heard that, and certainly if someone did leave the scene of the accident they shouldn't have done that," he said.

School officials described Malone as a substitute driver who had only been driving the route a week.

Investigators are still in the process of interviewing students and the driver could also face additional charges related to children being on the bus when the accident happened.
