HORN LAKE, MS (WMC-TV) - Quick thinking by workers on a Mid-South school bus helped save a Horn Lake woman.

Monday morning began as just another normal day for bus driver Stephanie Bayless and bus aide Bobbie Wright, until they encountered an emergency situation while on their route at Laurel Drive in Horn Lake.

"We turned the curb to the right and the house was on fire, so I asked the bus driver to stop and let me off the bus," Wright said.

Without hesitation, Wright ran towards the home, where she saw a woman trying to escape the flames.

"I saw this lady trying to get out the house, and so I raised the window up and then pulled her to safety," Wright said.

After she pulled caregiver Louise Pinkston to safety, Wright tried to save the patient she was caring for, Jimmy Wayne McKnight, who was bedridden.  He died at the scene.

DeSoto Schools transportation director John Caldwell said he is very proud of Wright's efforts, but was not really surprised at what she did.

"We're especially proud today, but we're not surprised because we just really think these drivers and aides are our heroes everyday," Caldwell said.

For Ms. Wrights part, she does not consider herself a hero. She was at the right place at the right time.

"I'm not a hero, I just did what I thought was necessary to do," she said. "I just acted out what I know God would want me to do."

Wright has been a school bus aide for the past four years, and says she enjoys her job. She says its regretful to lose a life, but was glad she was able to help save another.
