MY TURN: Singing the Memphis Blues

There's no way to sugar coat it. It's a punch in the gut for all of us who just over a week ago were so excited about the University of Memphis basketball team. We had dreams of a second straight Final Four dancing in our heads and now, not only are we not playing, we've lost the leader who made those dreams possible.

Leadership is a wonderful quality. John Calipari never scored a single basket for the Memphis Tigers, but few would argue the point that his tenure at the University made a giant difference. He was a great recruiter, he prodded his student athletes into finishing the their degrees and he gave our region some exciting moments on the basketball court that some people will still be talking about decades from now.

So, we say thank you Coach Cal. We appreciate what you did for us here and we're happy for you to be able to pursue your dream. And if the Kentucky team ever comes here to play basketball, you're still welcome to the barbecue, but we hope you'll leave town singing the blues.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
