MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Authorities closed four properties Monday they said have been a haven for drug activity.

Officers with the Memphis Police Department's Undercover Operations Unit boarded up three drug houses and one duplex as part of Operation: Street Sweep.

The District Attorney's office filed nuisance petitions against the owners of the four properties in the Memphis area where, according to the petitions, the sale and use of illegal drugs like crack cocaine frequently occurred.

Authorities said it's an effort to weed drugs out of the community.

"My hope is that the drug dealers do get the message that Memphis, Tennessee is not the place they wanna do business," District Attorney Bill Gibbons said. "The best thing that can happen is for drug dealers to talk to each other and decide they need to elsewhere."

All of the properties also face possible code violations. Officials said nearly 40 people have been arrested and face drug charges for sales made at these properties.
