MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A drive-by shooting sent a seven-year-old boy to the hospital early Friday morning.

The boy, Anthony Benson, was asleep in his home on Farrington when a bullet hit him in the leg. After he was treated at LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, the bandage covering his leg left him with a grown up story.

"I had heard a lot of gunshots," Benson said. "Then it shot me in the leg."

Around 1:00 a.m. Friday, Anthony was sleeping in his bed, when someone fired multiple shots into his home in a drive-by shooting.  By daylight his mother Tammy, upset and shaken, had counted the bullet holes.

She found a total of 15.

"I can't believe it," she said.

"Fifteen!  Fifteen total bullet holes

The bullets rattled around inside, with one striking the headboard of Anthony's bed, directly above his pillow where he was sleeping.

Another bullet pierced the home's center wall, shot through the kitchen, and straight into the family's clothes dryer.  Elsewhere in the house, a radio was broken, and sheet rock was ruined.

Police say the bullets were fired from an AK-47.

"I don't know who could've done it," Tammy Benson said. "Why?  And for what reason?"

Benson, who has lived on Farrington for five years, said she was fed up.

"I don't even want to be here in this neighborhood anymore because of what happened," she said.

Friday, she was counting down until her first chance to move away, as she counted her blessings that her son survived.

Seven other people were inside the house at the time of the shooting, but no one else was injured.
