COVINGTON, TN (WMC-TV) - Tipton County deputies are searching for the burglars responsible for a recent rash of car break-ins.

Investigators say these crimes could be part of a gang initiation.

"We moved here from Frayser to get out of all this crime and its like its getting everywhere now," says break-in victim Amber Robison.

Robison is worried, after someone broke into her car while it was sitting in her driveway.  She was just feet away, asleep inside her home.

"I just keep watching my car...come out here every hour to watch my car," Robison said.

In the past month, over thirty cars have been burglarized in South Tipton County.

Deputies say the suspects walk up the driveway, smash the car windows, and take everything from radios to CD's and weapons.

More of a gang affiliated thing where they're saying I broke into this vehicle, I got evidence showing where I broke into this vehicle," said Tipton County Sheriff's Deputy Cori Peete.

"They are moving into areas where they're going to be able to fit in quietly, get in and move out," added Chief Donna Turner.

Police say about half of the cars are unlocked

"Get out and know your neighbors...learn your neighbors, learn who they are, learn what vehicles are in your neighborhood," Peete said.

Sheriff's department officials haven't made any arrests in this case - in fact, they're offering a reward for the capture of those responsible for these car break-ins.  If you have any information, call Tipton County dispatch at 901-475-4300.
