BARTLETT, TN (WMC-TV) - Bartlett Police have charged Thomas Pate with second degree murder in the death of his wife, Micah Denise Pate.

The 26-year-old nurse's body was found Friday night near the Loosahatchie River in Brunswick, about five miles from the couple's home.

Authorities say Thomas Pate gave them information that led police to his wife's body.

A Bartlett police spokesperson said Saturday that investigators were still trying to determine exactly how and when Micah Pate died.

Thomas Pate reported his wife missing Thursday night, saying she failed to return home after going for a run.

Investigators didn't originally suspect foul play, but they did tape off Pate's house on Foxfield Trail Friday afternoon.

Early Saturday, a heavy rain fell on the Pates' empty home. The porch light was still on and crime scene tape could be seen hanging over a garbage bin.

Neighbor Scott Long said he'd heard about Micah Pate's Thursday disappearance and was visited by her husband, who appeared desperately worried.

"Thomas walked across the street when my wife was getting ready to take our daughter and her friend to school and asked my wife if she had seen her (Micah)."

Long says the Pates seemed like a nice, easygoing couple who enjoyed working in their yard and playing with the dog.

"We have prayed, and our hearts go out to them. It's a sad day," he said.

Thomas Pate is being held in Bartlett City Jail. No bond has been set.
