Charged: Martin Charged: Martin

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - A Shelby County Sheriff's deputy was injured Saturday night when a pickup truck crashed into his cruiser.

Deputy Charles Wallace was driving to a home in North Shelby County, where an ambulance had been called for a sick infant.

Due to the rainy weather, Wallace did not turn on his blue lights or siren. As he drove south on Raleigh-Millington near Sykes Road, a pickup truck going north suddenly turned left and crashed into the driver's side door of the squad car.The impact sent the cruiser off the road and into a field.

The deputy suffered a cut to his head and received several stitches. He's listed in stable condition at The Med.

Investigators say the driver of the pickup, 43-year-old Centeno Martin of Millington, had been drinking. He was alone in the vehicle and was not injured in the crash.

Martin was taken to the Shelby County Jail and charged with driving under the influence and failure to yield.
