Second Swine Flu case diagnosed in Shelby Co.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A second case of the H1N1 virus, commonly known as Swine Flu, has been diagnosed in a person living in Shelby County.

Officials with the Memphis and Shelby County Health Department said Tuesday the Swine Flu specimen was detected in an adult resident of Shelby County.

Yvonne Madlock, Director of the Health Department, encouraged residents of the county to continue the use of good hygiene.

"We will continue to emphasize that people practice good hygiene by washing their hands frequently, coughing into their sleeve or a tissue," Madlock said in a press release.  "And, if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, stay at home."

Health Department officials are continuing surveillance to determine how widespread the virus might be in the county, Madlock said.

For more information about the H1N1 virus, visit www.shelbycountytn.gov or call the Department’s recorded information line at 544-6969, or call 2-1-1, or 415-2790.
