11-year-old boy struck by stray bullet

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - An 11-year-old boy was struck in the back by a stray bullet as he played basketball in the Hickory Hill area Wednesday night.

Neighbors said the child was playing with his two brothers in front of their home in the 4500 block of Summer Creek Cove when the boy was shot.

Police said the incident was not a drive-by shooting and that the child was not an intended victim.

Neighbors said someone was shooting bottles on a nearby fence.

The boy was transported to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to stable.

Police have no suspects in custody.
