TIPTON COUNTY, TN (WMC-TV) - Residents of Tipton County paid tribute to local officers killed in the line of duty at a ceremony Friday.

Officials said the Tipton County Sheriff's Department holds the ceremony every year, even when they don't lose any officers in the line of duty.

With bagpipes wailing and the chorus chipping in too, the law enforcement community converges.

Among the officers honored Friday was Trooper Calvin Jenks, who shot and killed during a traffic stop in Tipton County.  Loved ones place a single flower in honor of the officer's they lost in the line of duty.

Survivor said the memorial is an important way to remember their fallen loved ones.

"It means a lot to me," said Mary Holland, whose brother was killed in the line of duty. "Simply because my hero Laney is not being forgotten along with all the other heroes that we have."

"Not only as a law enforcement officer, but also as a family survivor, it's crucial that we never forget," said Tipton County Sheriff Pancho Chumley, whose brother was killed in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, the two men accused of killing Trooper Calvin Jenks were both convicted in that crime.  Alejandro Guana is serving life in prison, while Orlando Garcia is serving 21 years.
