Fallen Mid-South soldiers honored in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - Mid-Southerners who died serving their country were honored in Memphis Sunday.

The Shelby County Veterans Council hosted a ceremony at Memphis National Cemetery. 1,300 scouts placed flags at the base of each headstone as a tribute to the local soldiers who fought for freedom.

Congressman Steve Cohen says Memphians should do more to honor their veterans.

"This is a city that prides itself on being a part of the Volunteer State, where people volunteer to fight and protect the nation volunteered to go to Texas and other things," he said. "We have the Liberty bowl, we honor liberty. We have a lot of values - they're all embedded in Memorial Day and Veteran's Day - and we don't do enough in this city to honor our veterans."

Cohen says 10 soldiers from Shelby County have already died serving our country in the Middle East.
