SELMER, TN (WMC-TV) - A woman accused of murdering an elderly Selmer, Tennessee resident faced a judge Thursday.

Sharie Savage is charged with murder, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence, and is being held on one million dollars bond.

According to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agent John Mehr, authorities believe Savage killed JoEtta McClain, who died between 1:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Mehr declined to release the cause of death, but told The Jackson Sun robbery could be the motive.

Savage was taken into custody Wednesday.

Action News 5's Janice Broach interviewed Savage one day before she was arrested and charged with the murder. At the time, Savage was not known as a suspect. You can watch the full, exclusive interview in the video player on this page.

Thursday, Action News 5's news partner, WBBJ-TV, spoke with McClain's niece, Phyllis West, who is still coming to terms with her aunt's murder.
"It's really been hard knowing that someone can, you know, do this to an 82-year-old lady that stayed in her wheelchair all the time...stayed in the house all the time...you know, she was just helpless," West said.

McClain's niece said she was hoping her family can now get closure, and are grateful the 51-year-old Savage is off the street.

West said her family had suspected Savage, someone the family knew well.

West added she feels sorry for Savage's mother, who was a good friend to victim JoEtta McClain.
