HERNANDO, MS (WMC-TV) - Among his many priorities, President Barack Obama says the issue of health care reform is something that has to be addressed. This week, First District Congressman Travis Childers is touring area hospitals to get some input.

"We're touring this week several hospitals, speaking with doctors, hospital administrators and other health care providers to get opinions about what should be done," Childers said.

According to Childers, one in five Mississippi residents do not have health care, and are struggling to make ends meet. For Childers, the spiraling costs must be reduced to help those in need.

"We need to look at controlling costs and saving money," he said. "The congressional budget office has itemized 130 ways that we can save money in health care."

General surgeon Daniel Fore said he believes it's a complicated issue but is hopeful a solution can be found.

"I think everybody can work together to get a system that can work for everybody physicians, hospitals, patients as well," he said.

For Larry Wiley, its time to push the issue of health care reform.

"If you don't talk about it, you couldn't get nothing done, and if you don't push the issue, your not going to get anything done," he said. "We need to push it.  We sure do."

Childers said he doesn't know when the issue of health care reform will be brought to the floor, adding it is something that needs to be addressed sooner than later.
