MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - An off-duty Memphis police officer was killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Rico Moore, 27, died in the accident, which happened just after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Sea Isle and Quince.

Investigators said a Nissan traveling south on Sea Isle pulled out from a stop sign in front of McMoore's motorcycle as he crossed the intersection on Quince.

Witnesses said McMoore's motorcycle struck the left passenger side door of the Nissan as it pulled out in front of him. Afterwards, the driver, Tamika Bailey, stayed in her car.

"She was more worried if she could get out," witness Tamika Bonner said. "She was terrified, the driver. I know it was hard for her."

Bailey was not seriously injured.  She was cited for Failure to Yield Pulling from a Stop Sign.  Investigators do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Officials said McMoore had been a member of the Memphis Police Department since 2001, beginning as a Police Service Technician, and becoming a commissioned officer in 2003.

"He got a big family," said the victim's brother, James McMoore. "He is well loved in the family. He was an officer in the street...I'm messed up right now."
