SELMER, TN (WMC-TV) - A Selmer woman charged with killing her elderly neighbor said the victim "was pretty cool for an old lady" in a television interview shortly after the murder.

Appearing to be a concerned neighbor, Sherie Savage spoke on camera to Action News 5 in a story about the brutal murder of 82-year-old JoEtta McClain.

Savage also had blood on her shoe when detectives administered a lie-detector test while investigating the stabbing death. Savage failed the test and was immediately arrested.

In late May, paramedics responded to McClain's home after the wheelchair-bound woman's life alert device went off, reportedly because it had been damaged during the stabbing.

Selmer police say robbery was the motive in the McClain's murder.

Savage has a lengthy arrest record that includes public intoxication, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. She has been booked into the McNairy County jail more than 30 times.

Savage now sits behind bars on a $1 million bond and has a hearing scheduled for later this month.
