Man charged with killing Olive Branch teen

OLIVE BRANCH, TN (WMC-TV) - Olive Branch police have charged a 56-year-old man in the shooting death of a teenager.

Officers were called to a home in the 10000 block of DeSoto Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. after reports of a shooting there.  When officers arrived, they found Justin Cordarrell Brown, 19, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Brown was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, the suspect, Cornelius Swopshire, 56, was at the scene when police arrived, and was taken into custody without incident. 

Witnesses told police Brown and Swopshire had been arguing earlier in the evening.  Swopshire left the residence, but then returned to the home with a .38 caliber revolver, which he allegedly used to shoot Brown.

Investigators charged Swopshire with murder, and are holding him on $1,000,000 bond in the DeSoto County Jail.
