RED BANK, MS (WMC-TV) - A 9-year-old boy was shot to death Tuesday while struggling with his brother over a shotgun.

The incident happened in a residence near the intersection Humphreys and Avant Road in Red Banks.

According to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson, the shooting happened during an argument between the 9-year-old boy, A'Darrious Finley, and his 11-year-old stepbrother.  The boys were alone in their house at the time, while their father was out in the yard.

Dickerson said it appeared A'Darrious became upset after losing at a video game the boys were playing, and retrieved an unloaded shotgun from a closet.  Then, A'Darrious loaded a round into the shotgun as he approached his stepbrother. When the stepbrother tried to take the shotgun away from A'Darrious, the gun discharged, killing the younger child.

"It's just one of the worst tragedies that I've had to look at in almost 40 years," Dickerson said.

Dickerson said A'Darrious' body was found in a bedroom, with the shotgun laying nearby.  Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson said the boy died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators worked much of the afternoon to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.  Initally, according to Dickerson, the description of events given by the stepbrother did not match up with the physical evidence.  Later in the afternoon, the stepbrother gave a new statement, which was consistent with the evidence investigators found.

A'Darrious' body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.  Dickerson said the death was accidental, and no charges are likely to be filed.
