Plane lands safely after hitting turbulence

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A commuter plane with 39 people on board made an unscheduled landing at Memphis after running into turbulence. No injuries were reported.

The pilot of the Northwest Airlink flight reported on Thursday that an emergency fuel light had come on in the cockpit as the plane ran into rough weather over Kentucky, said Memphis fire department Lt. Wayne Cook.

Emergency crews were called out to stand by for the landing.

"When it went through that turbulence, the oil-fuel light came," Cook said. No problem was found.

Flight 2919, with 36 passengers and a crew of three, was en route to Huntsville, Ala., from Detroit when the pilot requested the emergency landing at Memphis, said Amy Howell, a spokeswoman for Pinnacle Airlines which operates Northwest Airlink.
