Important information about how to receive our signal

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - In the months since WMC-TV 5's switch from analog to digital broadcasting, some viewers have expressed problems with receiving our signal on televisions at home or at work.

Since the digital transition on June 12, 2009, WMC-TV 5 has been broadcasting at full power, and our signal strength is significantly greater than it was before the transition.  WMC-TV 5 and WHBQ (ch. 13) were required to relocate our digital signals to our old channel numbers, placing us both back in the VHF band. 

Because of this move, a rescan will be needed on whatever box/TV you are using to receive the digital channels.  The process is different for every system, so you may have to refer to your owner's manual for precise instructions how to do this.

You will also probably need a VHF-UHF antenna to receive our signal.  Some of the 'digital' antennas sold recently are UHF-only antennas.  Antenna placement can be critical, and this may require some experimentation.

If your TV is hooked up to cable or satellite, you should be all set to receive our programming. However, if you experience problems with our new digital channel, you should call your cable or satellite provider.

More tips:

Rescan your cable channels (if hooked up to cable) to make sure you're receiving all the channels in your plan.

Rescan your new digital channels (if using a digital tuner or converter box) to make sure you are receiving all the new channels.
