MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - An undercover operation Thursday morning cleared the streets of nearly 50 suspects wanted for dealing drugs, guns or committing violent crimes.

Fourty-eight suspects were on the department's arrest list during "Operation: Summer Heat TWO," along with two juveniles.  Fourteen of them are known gang members.

The youngest suspect wanted Thursday was just 15 years old.  Undercover officers spent the last few weeks infiltrating high-crime neighbors and observed much of the criminal activity first-hand.

"These guys are actually living, breathing, eating, sleeping, and hanging with all the guys and girls involved in violent crimes, drug crimes, gun crimes, in Memphis, Tennessee," Detective Paul Sherman said.

Sherman said Thursday's round-up was the 29th since the Blue Crush crime initiative began, with 1450 suspects arrested so far.

"Operation: Summer Heat TWO" will run through the weekend if necessary, as police want to make sure all of those on their list actually end up in jail.
